MICROFLUIDICS: Laminate tolerancing, capability and measurements in laser processing
By Resonetics
Medical designers engaged in the creation of Point-of-Care microfluidic test devices have a strong interest in knowing the capability of laser processing. To highlight the capabilities and requirements for tolerancing, a sample part was processed with different laser cut methods. This process was representative of typical PET microfluidic layers that are in current production. The results of the gathered capability data indicate laser processing capability at Resonetics is above 1.33 Cpk. Capability is held even at high tolerancing of ±0.050mm. The data indicates that with care, a capability of ±0.025mm can be achieved with greater than a capability of 1.33 Cpk. Other factors including tolerancing, measurement impact and cost impact are also covered.
