Solventum has announced the release of its Attest Super Rapid Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide (VH2O2) Clear Challenge Pack, a new solution for low-temperature sterilisation of medical instruments.
This preassembled test pack features a transparent design and integrates two US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared indicators. These include a biological indicator for confirming microbial neutralisation and a chemical indicator for verifying steriliser function.
According to Solventum, the pack is intended for single-use and is compatible with various steriliser brands and models.
The company noted that the importance of instrument sterility in combating hospital-associated infections, affecting one in every 31 patients in the US, is well-documented.
Industry guidelines recommend the practice of every load monitoring, which uses both biological and chemical indicators to verify each sterilisation cycle’s effectiveness. This dual-indicator approach helps minimise patient safety risks by ensuring all instruments are properly sterilised, said the company.
The Attest Super Rapid VH2O2 Clear Challenge Pack is said to offer several advantages for healthcare facilities. Being preassembled and ready-to-use, it eliminates the need for manual preparation and reduces potential errors such as incorrect indicator placement or omission.
It is designed to more accurately mimic the conditions within a wrapped set of surgical instruments during a VH2O2 cycle, providing a realistic challenge to the sterilisation process.
Additionally, the integrated design simplifies inventory management by reducing the need to order separate components such as biological indicators, chemical indicators, and peel pouches.
The pack’s transparent container allows sterile processing professionals to inspect both indicators immediately after processing without breaking the seal. This feature enables early verification of the biological indicator’s integrity before incubation, aiding streamlined workflows and timely decision-making regarding instrument load release.
