RaySearch Laboratories and Radiology Oncology Systems have partnered to integrate refurbished linear accelerators with advanced software solutions to enhance cancer care.
The collaboration aims to offer comprehensive solutions that expand radiation therapy access, ensuring high-quality care while strengthening both companies’ market positions.
It will focus on refurbishing fully functional linear accelerators, which are often discarded after ten years, to be used in centres lacking cancer treatment technology.
The initiative contributes to circularity and extends the lifecycle of linear accelerators, promoting sustainability in radiation therapy.
The collaboration, which has already established several agreements, provides RaySearch with broader adoption of its RayStation and RayCare software.
RaySearch founder and CEO Johan Löf said: “Access to care is critical for us to fulfil our vision of a world where cancer is conquered.
“This partnership, with its combination of refurbished linacs and advanced software solutions, can really make a difference.”
Radiology Oncology Systems president John Vano said: “Too many cancer patients around the world face a critical gap between their need for care and the advanced technology available.
“Our collaboration with RaySearch allows us to help our customers expand their access to critical, life-changing care.”
Two health centres in Argentina with Varian Trilogy linear accelerators, one in the US using TrueBeam and RayStation, and a Mexican centre with Elekta Versa HD and RayStation, have placed orders.
Earlier this year, RaySearch treated the first patient using a new adaptive replanning module in the latest RayStation version at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in the UK.
The procedure, conducted in March 2025, used Accuray’s Radixact treatment machine alongside Royal Marsden’s existing oncology information system.
RaySearch highlighted the effectiveness of RayStation’s new module, noting significant time savings for patients and the hospital, with a potential for further optimisation.
Teams from RaySearch and The Royal Marsden collaborated to refine integration and enhance system efficiency.
