Clarius Mobile Health has received the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for Clarius Median Nerve AI, its AI-powered that helps diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
Integrated into Clarius handheld ultrasound devices, the tool automates median nerve measurements, significantly enhancing the speed and standardisation of CTS diagnosis.
The Clarius Median Nerve AI provides clinicians with a semi-automated solution for rapid and accurate median nerve assessments.
It is compatible with Clarius L20 HD3, L15 HD3, and L7 HD3 handheld ultrasound scanners.
During an examination, the AI tool highlights the median nerve in the short axis view and delivers precise, automatic measurements of the nerve’s cross-sectional area.
Clarius marketing vice president Sarah Leverett said: “Median Nerve AI as a second set of eyes for clinicians using ultrasound to assess patients with suspected CTS.
“Clarius high frequency scanners are clinically validated to be an effective tool in CTS assessments; the Median Nerve AI boosts diagnostic confidence and increases efficiency with one-tap documentation of results.
“For patients undergoing treatment, Median Nerve AI helps easily track treatment response with consistently performed measurements.”
CTS is a common condition causing pain and numbness in the hand and wrist, requires precise assessment of the median nerve by trained professionals.
Traditional manual measurement methods are often time-consuming and prone to variability, potentially leading to diagnostic challenges and difficulties in tracking treatment progress.
Clarius Median Nerve AI offers benefits such as fast and accurate assessments, reduction of user variability, along with auto-segmentation and one-tap documentation.
It also improves documentation by instantly capturing and storing measurements, aiding in better reporting and follow-up.
The tool is designed to support users of all experience levels, making ultrasound more accessible, and tracks treatment progress through consistent measurements over time.
Clarius Median Nerve AI is part of Clarius’s expanding AI portfolio, which includes MSK AI and Voice Controls, which simplifies ultrasound usage for new users.
Dr David Rosenblum, a pain management specialist, was one of the first to use Median Nerve AI with his Clarius scanner.
Rosenblum said: “With the new Clarius AI program, I can accurately identify the median nerve and take measurements within seconds. The program is intuitive and really improves workflow!”
