Clarius Mobile Health has launched Clarius Prostate AI, a tool which has been recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for expediting the assessment and diagnosis of prevalent urologic conditions by clinicians.
This semi-automatic system calculates prostate volume during ultrasound examinations, a crucial step in diagnosing conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
Traditionally, prostate volume measurement has relied on manual methods with conventional ultrasound devices. Clarius is showcasing its latest technology at the ongoing American Urological Association (AUA) Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.
Clarius marketing vice president Sarah Leverett said: “95% of clinicians we recently surveyed believe AI-powered measurements would save them time and allow them to see more patients.
“Manual ultrasound prostate volume measurements are repetitive and time-consuming, regardless of experience. With Clarius Prostate AI, what used to take several minutes now takes seconds—no matter your experience level.”
The Clarius Prostate AI functions in conjunction with Clarius handheld ultrasound devices tailored for urological assessments. These include the curvilinear C3 HD3 for transabdominal scanning and the endocavitary EC7 HD3 for transrectal imaging, which is uniquely wireless and cleared by the FDA.
These portable, wireless scanners offer high-definition imaging capabilities comparable to standard ultrasound systems but at a significantly reduced cost.
Clinicians activate Prostate AI via the Clarius App on mobile devices during examinations. The AI tool autonomously identifies the prostate gland and applies calipers to measure volume when the image is stationary.
Clinicians have the option to adjust the calipers manually to enhance accuracy. Moreover, the app computes PSA density using the inputted PSA value and the measured volume, aiding in the earlier detection of prostate cancer.
Clarius Prostate AI is part of the Clarius AI suite, which also features tools like Bladder AI and Voice Controls.
Available with a Clarius Membership or One-Time License, the models include specialised imaging presets, patient report generation, and integrated billing codes, designed to optimize workflow in private healthcare settings.
