Vertically Integrated Partner from Bioresorbable Polymer to Finished Medical Device

As the Leader in Bioresorbables® with more than 30 years of experience, Poly-Med, Inc. is the only vertically integrated partner from bioresorbable polymer to finished medical devices and components. Our team specializes in providing custom solutions by value-added processing of our next-generation absorbable polymers. Our company focuses on surgically implantable devices that create temporary support during the healing process. In-house capabilities include extrusion into monofilament fibers, multifilament yarns, & films, knitting into implantable textiles, braiding into sutures, electrospinning nanofibrous materials, and 3D printing into solid or lattice-based parts.

Bioresorbable Polymers:

Absorbable medical device development has been hindered by a lack of materials that can exhibit a wide range of tensile moduli similar to the various tissues where devices are implanted. Poly-Med, Inc. offers a solution to these challenges by manufacturing next-generation absorbable block copolymers that exhibit increased toughness and biocompatibility as compared to traditional linear homopolymers and random copolymers. Poly-Med, Inc. can achieve preferred mechanical and biological properties by controlling the chemical composition and polymer structure based on the intended application.

Poly-Med’s bioabsorbable polymers are designed with segmented block copolymer structures, increasing toughness and elasticity.

Biomedical Textiles & Fibers:

Poly-Med’s advanced bioresorbable materials can be engineered into biomedical textiles to facilitate a rapid healing response while not requiring secondary surgeries for removal. Our catalog of customizable biomedical textiles includes knitted and braided constructs. These textile-based materials may be useful in a variety of indications ranging from sutures, hernia mesh, plastic surgery mesh, carrier materials, and tissue grafts.

Poly-Med, Inc. offers in-house extrusion of our next generation absorbable polymers, as well as conversion into knitted mesh constructs, and braided sutures.

Electrospinning:

New tissue engineering strategies such as implant-grade electrospinning, seek to restore tissue function through a combination of synthetic biomaterials. Poly-Med’s materials offer a distinctive softness when electrospun due to their unique polymer design. Regenerative scaffolds aim to mimic the physical, chemical, mechanical, and biological cues observed in a normal tissue environment. Our advanced materials and streamlined manufacturing processes allow for faster turnaround times for molecular-level healing and tissue regeneration.

Poly-Med, Inc. offers in-house electrospinning capabilities of our next-generation absorbable polymers into nanofibrous electrospun constructs that may be used as synthetic tissue scaffolds.

3D Printing:

Utilizing 3D printing rather than traditional injection molding approaches for monolithic parts allows for new, porous designs to be chosen to allow for increased cell infiltration, and ultimately better wound closure. These parts may be manufactured via Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) from Poly-Med’s portfolio of 1.75 mm 3D printing filaments, or our novel Photoset® liquid resin material that can be utilized in stereolithography (SLA) or digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing.

Poly-Med, Inc. offers in-house 3D printing of Photoset® resin-based 3D printing of our Photoset® material via stereolithography (SLA) or digital light processing (DLP) approaches and of 1.75 mm extruded filaments via Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF).

Analytical Testing:

Poly-Med provides in-house analytical testing that limits 3rd-party vendor touchpoints, resulting in faster speed to market during the product development cycle. In-house analytical testing for absorbable components and finished medical devices also simplifies a product’s manufacturing supply chain.

Quality:

Poly-Med, Inc. is FDA-registered, has an ISO 13485 compliant QMS, and operates a manufacturing facility in compliance with 21 CFR Part 820, Quality System Regulation. Because Poly-Med can see a product from design to manufacture, our quality assurance standards are ingrained into the very core of our company; the organizational structure, responsibilities, procedures, processes, and resources used.
