Bioimaging solutions provider Vieworks has introduced its high-speed slide scanner, the LUCEON 510, to advance the digital pathology landscape.

The LUCEON 510 features an intricately designed three-camera system that is engineered and produced in-house.

The scanner is designed to offer four distinct imaging modes, each tailored for specific applications such as histopathology slides, liquid-based cytology slides, and cytology slides. This design allows the three Vieworks cameras to capture three focused images simultaneously, all within scan times and data sizes comparable to those of a single camera.

Among its four imaging modes, the tri-focal layer merge mode captures and combines three separate images in real time. This produces a single fused image with optimal focus from each input.

The tri-focal layer merge mode offers a refined alternative to the conventional Z-stack.

Additionally, the tri-focal layer merge Z-stack mode leverages LUCEON’s three-camera system to acquire images with faster scan times and larger image sizes.

Furthermore, the LUCEON 510 can accommodate up to 510 slides with its 17 racks, each holding 30 slides.

A patent-pending compatibility adapter from Vieworks supports both 30-slide and 20-slide racks.

The slide scanner can process up to 83 slides per hour with a scanning speed of 30 seconds per slide.

The LUCEON 510’s best focused layer mode automatically selects the image with the highest quality, making it ideal for histopathology slides.

The tri-focal layer merge mode captures and fuses three individual images in real time, producing a single fusion image that integrates the best-focused pixels from each image. This mode is suited for liquid-based cytology slides, Vieworks said.

The Z-stack mode offers stacking with adjustable layer spacing in increments of 0.1 µm, designed for cytology slides.

Lastly, the tri-focal layer merge Z-stack mode combines tri-focal imaging with Z-stacking. Suitable for cytology slides, the mode allows layer spacing adjustments in increments of 0.1 µm, with a recommended spacing of 1 µm.

Vieworks, which is based in South Korea, provides imaging solutions like bioimaging, medical X-ray imaging, and machine vision technologies.

The company empowers research professionals with images and insights, advancing the bioimaging industry and enhancing the capabilities of digital pathology.
