The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), a provider of risk calculators to inform physician-patient decision-making in thoracic surgery, has introduced a mobile application providing real-time access to its adult cardiac and thoracic surgery risk calculators.
Available on both iOS and Android platforms, the STS Risk Calculator App is designed to support surgeons and multidisciplinary medical teams in making informed decisions that enhance patient outcomes.
The app offers an intuitive interface, enabling healthcare professionals to assess a patient’s operative risk instantly, whether at the bedside or remotely.
The application employs the same statistical models as the STS’s online risk calculators, utilising up-to-date data from the STS National Database. This database is a significant resource, comprising nearly 10 million cardiothoracic procedures conducted by over 4,300 surgeons.
STS president Joseph Sabik III said: “Having immediate access to reliable, evidence-based risk assessment tools is critical for improving surgical decision-making and patient outcomes.
“This mobile application ensures that up-to-date, risk-adjusted data is always within reach, bringing the power of the STS National Database to surgeons and care teams wherever and whenever they need it.”
The introduction of this app signifies an advancement in the STS National Database, reflecting the Society’s dedication to equipping cardiothoracic surgeons and data managers with practical tools aimed at delivering top-tier care.
The development aligns with STS’s ongoing efforts to integrate advanced technology into the cardiothoracic surgery field, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical care.
By harnessing insights from one of the largest clinical registries globally, surgeons are better positioned to make decisions grounded in clinical evidence. The new app marks a progression in STS’s mission to provide innovative solutions that support the speciality.
