Dutch health technology company Royal Philips has received the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR) certificate for its Radiology Operations Command Centre Console.

With the MDR certificate, the Philips Radiology Operations Command Centre Console can be used for remote scanning procedures in Europe.

The health technology company said its Radiology Operations Command Centre is a vendor-agnostic, multi-modality, safe and secure imaging solution.

It can be used with multiple vendor MR, CT or PET-CT configurations and easily connects imaging experts in a command centre with technologists at scan locations.

The Philips Radiology Operations Command Centre Console allows expert radiologists to help technologists on-the-spot by remotely controlling scans to acquire high-quality images.

Philips enterprise informatics business leader Shez Partovi said: “Healthcare providers are increasingly confronted with the challenge of not having enough skilled technologists to meet the demand for patient imaging exams, particularly for more complex exams such as cardiac MR.

“With Radiology Operations Command Center Console’s remote scanning capability, we are further empowering clinicians to deliver the timely diagnosis that patients deserve and helping to deliver better care for more patients.”

According to Philips, remote scanning capabilities allow expert users to edit MR, CT or PET-CT scanner consoles in real-time, from any location.

Also, they can share their expertise through on-demand chat, voice and video collaboration, without compromising privacy, safety or security.

Its Radiology Operations Command Centre enables remote collaboration between imaging experts and on-site technologists to enable precise, first-time-right image acquisition.

In a pilot study conducted at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London, UK, the Radiology Operations Command Centre Console increased scanning throughput by 9%.

The increase in scanning throughput builds on reduced scan times and a zero exam recall rate over the study period, said the health technology company.

Germany’s Med360° MR application specialist Martina Salomon said: “With the Radiology Operations Command Center, we can support multiple locations in real-time.

“We utilise the expertise in our Command Center to ensure that every site has access to it. This helps us to improve efficiency and maintain the same level of care at all facilities.”
