Medical technology company Olympus has launched Retentia HemoClip, its new single-use haemostasis clip, in the US.

Designed to meet the needs of gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopists, the haemostasis clip offers 360° rotation and an intuitive one-step deployment.

The new haemostasis clip aims to enhance control over placement and is available in three sizes to accommodate various closure applications.

It enables diverse closure applications with arm lengths of 9mm, 12mm, and 16mm.

Also, its short tail length helps in visualising the target site, potentially facilitating the placement of multiple clips.

In addition, sheath markings are designed to assist in insertion and extraction, and the intuitive handle design enables single-step deployment.

Olympus Americas EndoTherapy global VP and general manager Mike Callaghan said: “The Retentia HemoClip is another example of Olympus’ commitment to understanding the needs of clinicians and addressing them, and for this reason among others, we are excited to bring this solution to the market.

“As procedural needs within GI endoscopy continue to evolve, so too must our solutions.

“Features like ease in deployment and a broad range of size options have become imperative for procedure success, and we’re proud to deliver on these improvements for GI endoscopists.”

Retentia HemoClip is part of Olympus’ EndoTherapy portfolio, which comprises advanced solutions for endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) procedures.

EMR and ESD are techniques used to remove cancerous or abnormal tissues from the digestive tract.

Olympus’ endoscopic portfolio includes electrosurgical knives and haemostatic forceps, which provide targeted monopolar coagulation.

The portfolio also features technology to detect and control GI bleeding, complementing conventional techniques such as clips.

Haemostasis is a critical concern for GI physicians, and the Retentia HemoClip underscores Olympus’ commitment to addressing bleeding challenges during endoscopic procedures.

The company’s Red Dichromatic Imaging (RDI) technology improves the visibility of bleeding points within the mucosa and enhances the visibility of deep blood vessels.

In addition, the EndoClot Polysaccharide Haemostatic Spray (PHS) is a powder haemostat indicated for use with conventional techniques like clips to control bleeding.

Olympus plans to expand the Retentia HemoClip worldwide, following its US launch.
