Switzerland-based medical imagining software firm Medimaps Group has introduced its next-generation TBS Osteo Advanced software in Europe, following its launch in the US last month.

This software is designed to enhance the assessment of bone microarchitecture and improve osteoporosis management.

The TBS Osteo Advanced software, which is cleared under the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), includes improved correction for soft tissue thickness in the lumbar spine area, accommodating various body types.

It also introduces new system management features that enable centralised control of the software across hospital networks, standardising workflows and enhancing operational efficiency.

Medimaps CEO and co-founder Didier Hans said: “The TBS Osteo next-generation software has been developed with busy radiology professionals in mind for a maximum of clinical output with a minimum of logistics.

“The software is seamlessly integrated into the clinical workflow and performed at time of DXA scan. This approach sets TBS Osteo apart from competition.”

Available through a subscription model, TBS Osteo Advanced provides customers with updates, new features, and support, ensuring healthcare facilities remain up-to-date with the latest osteoporosis care innovations.

Current users of TBS Osteo have the option to upgrade to this advanced version and benefit from its enhanced capabilities.

Since its introduction in 2012, TBS Osteo has been adopted globally, supported by over 1,400 peer-reviewed studies and endorsed by over 30 osteoporosis guidelines. The software’s integration into clinical practice does not require additional scan time or radiation for patients, and it offers an automated report to aid clinical decisions.

The system combines the Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) with Bone Mineral Density (BMD) and FRAX to refine therapy decisions and monitor changes in osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis affects approximately 32 million Europeans aged 50 and above, according to the International Osteoporosis Foundation. The prevalence of osteoporotic fractures in Europe is expected to rise significantly, highlighting the need for advanced solutions like TBS Osteo, according to Medimaps.
