Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has introduced the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism, a daily disposable contact lens catering to individuals with both astigmatism and presbyopia.
Now available in the US and Canada, the launch of Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism is anticipated later this summer.
According to research, 95% of users reported clear vision during daily activities, while 87% experienced clarity while driving at night. Additionally, 92% of wearers noted comfort throughout the day. Astigmatism, affecting approximately half of the population, results from irregularities in the eye’s curvature and leads to blurred vision.
Presbyopia generally starts in the early to mid-40s and affects near vision. Until now, individuals with both conditions had to choose between reusable lenses or adding reading glasses over their contacts.
Johnson & Johnson vision company group chairman Peter Menziuso said: “Acuvue is the world’s leading contact lens brand and with these new products, we now have the first and only complete family of daily-disposable contact lenses.#1 Clear sight empowers people to live their best lives, and we believe everyone should have the opportunity to achieve it.
“That’s why we focus our innovation on areas with the greatest unmet needs for patients. Today, we are working to fulfil that promise, providing millions of patients with a differentiated Acuvue experience.”
The Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism lens incorporates four proprietary technologies. These include Blink Stabilised Design, which ensures stability during eye movements and Pupil Optimised Design, which adapts to presbyopic needs.
The other two are TearStable Technology, which maintains lens hydration for prolonged comfort, and OptiBlue Light Filter for providing blue-violet light filtering.
This summer, the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism will also be launched in North America, completing the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Family as the sole daily disposable option on the market. The company plans to expand these products to markets outside North America from 2025 onwards.
