US-based medical technology company Imperative Care has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Zoom 7X Catheter to treat ischemic stroke.

The catheter is part of the company’s Zoom Stroke System and features the novel CenTRX Technology, with a 96-degree pre-shaped tip that centres within the vessel.

Zoom 7X is the first to incorporate CenTRX Technology, enhancing navigation and clot ingestion during aspiration thrombectomy procedures.

The unique design maximises clot ingestion with its asymmetric tip, allowing the device to navigate complex anatomy and position optimally for full clot aspiration.

The advanced catheter builds on the benefits of asymmetric aspiration in stroke treatment.

Imperative Care stroke general manager Ariel Sutton said: “Based on direct feedback from physicians, the Zoom 7X Catheter was developed to address the need for even greater trackability, navigation, and asymmetric clot ingestion.

“Zoom 7X builds upon our comprehensive system of stroke technologies with the goal of making the procedure faster, safer, and more efficient than ever before.

“The launch of Zoom 7X, paired with the recent introduction of the Continuous Dual Aspiration Technique (CDAT) with Zoom DuoPort, advances the field one step closer to making TICI 3 in 10 minutes the expectation for physicians.”

The Zoom Stroke System is a comprehensive solution for stroke treatment, facilitating fast and effective clot removal in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

The system includes a range of catheters, including Zoom 35, 45, 55, 71, and 7X.

It also features the Zoom 88 Large Distal Platform, Zoom 88 Support, Zoom POD and Zoom Aspiration/Zoom POD tubing, Zoom Canister, and DuoPort Canister.

Each Zoom Catheter is designed with an asymmetric TRX Tip, providing a 15% greater clot engagement area at the tip.

Their design ensures smooth tracking through challenging vasculature, enhancing the efficacy of stroke treatment.

University of Maryland neurosurgeon Jacob Cherian said: “I’ve seen significant benefit in using a shaped asymmetric tip for my stroke procedures. I believe the tip of Zoom 7X allows the catheter to self-orient from within the centre of the vessel for enhanced trackability.

“This capability, along with a full system approach from .088” intracranial access to complete clot ingestion, has helped further streamline my procedures.

“I’m encouraged to see Imperative Care respond to feedback from the physician community to engineer a solution that I expect will bring notable improvements to procedure efficiency and speed.”
