GE HealthCare has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for its updated Voluson Expert Series ultrasound systems.

The Voluson Expert 22, 20, and 18 models feature high-resolution imaging, advanced ultrasound technology, and an ergonomic design.

According to GE HealthCare, these systems improve workflow efficiency and offer a superior user experience.

With artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features and automation tools, the Voluson Expert Series is said to enhance imaging performance and efficiency in women’s healthcare.

The Nasdaq-listed medical technology firm said that the Voluson Expert Series is an advanced women’s health ultrasound system that delivers premium ultrasound imaging for confident diagnoses in high-risk, complex pregnancy cases.

Its Lyric Architecture enhances imaging and processing power, providing detailed, uniform images even in challenging scanning conditions.

AI-enabled features and automation tools support faster assessments, aiding early detection, diagnosis, and intervention.

The SonoLyst suite of AI tools, acquired by GE HealthCare from Intelligent Ultrasound last year, simplifies exams through image recognition, automated annotations, and measurements, enhancing speed and accuracy.

Clinicians can now use SonoLystlive during 11 to 14-week anatomical exams to ensure that required views are captured for diagnostic precision.

Additionally, the Voluson Expert Series ultrasound systems feature an expanded Graphicflow colour Doppler, offering real-time graphical visualisation of the trajectories of the blood cells to distinguish normal from abnormal haemodynamics.

The ultrasound series also features enhanced Voluson AI tools including SonoPelvicFloor3.0 which reduces pelvic floor examination time, expands anatomical views, and automates plane alignment, live C-plane tracking, and measurements for a streamlined process.

SonoAVCfollicle2.0 uses AI to improve follicle detection accuracy and precision, increasing success rates while minimising artifacts and reducing post-processing time.

The Voluson Expert Series systems are compatible with a wide range of speciality probes, including the new lightweight 2D/3D RAB7-D probe and the wireless Vscan Air dual probes.

GE HealthCare advanced visualisation solutions women’s health general manager Gerald Seifriedsberger said: “We are proud to introduce these updates to the Voluson Expert ultrasound systems, which represent our ongoing commitment to advancing technology that addresses women’s health needs of today, and the future.

“By introducing solutions that offer unparalleled clarity and detail, we can empower users with critical insights for informed care decisions and efficient exams, transforming how clinicians approach healthcare.”
