BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has launched a new cell analyser featuring spectral and real-time cell imaging technologies to enhance efficiency and throughput.
This development aims to expand research capabilities by providing deeper insights into cellular dynamics that were previously not visible in flow cytometry experiments.
The BD SpectralFX Technology enables the concurrent analysis of over 50 cellular characteristics, improving both resolution and sensitivity. This function is particularly beneficial for researchers involved in biomarker discovery.
Additionally, BD CellView Image Technology facilitates high-speed fluorescent and label-free imaging of individual cells. It delivers precise spatial and morphological information, such as identifying the location of a virus within a cell or detailing interactions between cells in real-time.
These technological advancements were initially introduced in the BD FACSDiscover S8 Cell Sorter and have now been integrated into the BD FACSDiscover A8 Cell Analyzer, allowing scientists to extract more detailed data per experiment with increased speed and sensitivity.
The BD FACSDiscover A8 Cell Analyzer is specifically designed to support translational research. Key features include automation that supports cost-effective data collection and user-friendly software for managing extensive datasets, ensuring compatibility with BD’s comprehensive range of cell sorters and reagents.
BD biosciences worldwide president Steve Conly said: “Translational research, in particular, is growing at a rapid pace and the BD FACSDiscover A8 Cell Analyzer combines advanced science with ease of use to empower, like never before, scientists developing the next generation of potentially life-changing therapies.
“Paired with the BD FACSDiscover S8 Cell Sorter, and alongside our advancements in software, informatics, and reagents, this landmark cell analyser will enable new dimensions of possibilities in one state-of-the-art ecosystem.”
The launch also introduces updated software solutions such as the latest version of BD FACSChorus Software, which optimizes workflows on both the A8 Cell Analyzer and S8 Cell Sorter. The FlowJo v11 software further enhances analysis speed and usability.
These products will be presented at the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry CYTO 2025 event, scheduled from 31 May 31 to 4 June in Denver, US.
The BD FACSDiscover A8 Cell Analyzer is now available for order through local sales representatives. Additionally, a forthcoming FACSDiscover Partner Program will offer customers additional support and flexibility in select regions.
