Apium Additive Technologies GmbH - Leaders in 3D printing solutions for high performance polymers

Apium Additive Technologies GmbH is a technologies-based company located in Karlsruhe (Germany). This dynamic company provides solutions for processing high-performance polymers with Fused Filament Fabrication 3D printing technology. Apium developed and first commercialised the PEEK filament together with the first filament based Material Extrusion (FFF) 3D printer optimised for processing high performance polymers used in industrial applications.

"Apium's mission is to help shape the future of our customers with our Material Extrusion (FFF) 3D printers and services through continuous innovation to pave the way for new ideas."

Patented technology for enabling ideal processing with high-performance polymers

Apium holds a patent on its 3D printing technology for the processing of high temperature polymers. A unique aspect of Apium technology is the Adaptive Heating System, which manages the temperature-associated influences on the processed material making it possible to fabricate high quality parts.

"When materials are fed in to our 3D printers, they treat the materials just the way a professional would treat them." Prof. Dr. Brando Okolo, CTO and managing director, Apium Additive Technologies GmbH.

Apium Adaptive Heating System technology provides an advanced temperature control, which makes material-specific adjustments possible on the printer and aims at achieving the best temperature distribution possible in the printed part, depending on part geometry. This is a feature lacking in other commercially available Material Extrusion 3D printing technologies. The thermal management realisable from the Apium Adaptive Heating System can be used to control the degree of crystallinity in polymers which exhibit crystalline properties. This tool also improves the process quality as it provides shorter heat-up, cool-down times, and ideally eliminates warping of printed parts.

Industrial 3D printers series

Apium P Series and M Series 3D printer series are the forerunner 3D printers for high temperature materials, first built in 2014 based on years of experience in materials science and German engineering. Apium`s Material Extrusion (FFF) 3D printers are capable of controlling material characteristics at the voxel level enabling the processing of high temperature polymers with the highest quality and reproducibility.

Apium machines are equipped with industry grade motion components enabling high-precision positioning. They have a closed loop drive system for reliability and better process stability.

Industrial grade materials for high-quality results

High performance thermoplastics such as PEEK and its peers are of particular interest for applications in industrial manufacturing. This interest stems from the unique properties, which this class of polymers show under extreme operating environments. Their resistance against wear loading, stability at relatively high temperatures, inertness under chemical attack and high specific strength make them key alternatives to applications where metals have traditionally been used. Therefore in the high-end engineering sectors covering health/medical, aerospace, automotive and oil & gas, high-performance this class of polymeric materials have a role to play.

To achieve the best engineering based results with 3D printed parts, Apium supplies only the highest quality filaments. Our materials processing partners; key industrial leaders, use high quality raw materials guaranteeing the purity and high dimensional tolerances of Apium`s advanced filaments.
