Highest point reached by Rhenus logistics centre in Eindhoven

Tuesday, September 27, 2016 by Rhenus Contract Logistics

The highest point of Rhenus Contract Logistics on the business park in Ekkersrijt in Son en Breugel (Eindhoven region), the Netherlands, was celebrated on 21 September.

The new facility is being built in two phases: Phase I covers an area of 50,000m2 and will be finished in February 2017, while Phase II will add another 35,000m2.

Reaching the highest point of the logistics centre was celebrated after a brief tour and the speeches by Michael Brockhaus, member of Board of Directors Rhenus Group, Alphons Van Erven, senior vice-president of Rhenus Contract Logistics division in the Netherlands, and Robert Visser, Alderman of the Municipality of Son. The honour of undertaking the official act of setting the final beam at the apex of the roof went to Michael Brockhaus and Alphons Van Erven.

The new centre will allow Rhenus to expand its storage capacity in Eindhoven. The company originally settled three years ago on a 60,000m2 distribution centre in the eastern part of Ekkersrijt industrial park, also a DOKVAST development. The extension is necessary because Rhenus Contract Logistics in the Netherlands has doubled in five years, including in the field of health technology and media products. In addition to these products, special conditioned storage of medical devices will also be available at the new facility.

Rhenus will be operating over 140,000m2 as well as at some dedicated customer sites in the Eindhoven region. This expansion ties in with the recent opening of large logistics centres in Hamburg and Frankfurt. Another is due to be opened in Boleslawiec in Poland in the near future.
